IOWA CITY, IA – The Iowa men’s tennis team defeated Wisconsin 4-3 this afternoon at the Recreation Building. With the victory Iowa improves to 8-1 (1-0 Big Ten). Wisconsin falls to 3-7 (0-3).
The Hawkeyes spilt the singles matches and took two of three doubles matches to insure a 4-3 victory over the Badgers. The meet came down to the final singles match where freshman Bart van Monsjou defeated Felipe Bellido (6-3, 5-7, 6-4) at the No. 4 position. coming back in the third set to give It was the Hawkeyes first Big Ten victory of the season. Sophomore Jonny Hoak and junior Brett Taylor also won singles matches.
“This was another great win for our team,” said Head Coach Steve Houghton. “The guys are really starting to believe in themselves.”
Iowa will return to action next Friday when they travel to Minneapolis, MN to compete against Minnesota. Competition will begin at 6:30 p.m.
