ST. LOUIS, MO – Hawkeye junior Joe Johnston and redshirt freshman Mark Perry placed second at the 2005 NCAA Championships Saturday night in St. Louis, MO. Iowa placed seventh in the team standings with 66 points. Oklahoma State won their third consecutive team title with 153 points.
Johnston became Iowa’s 126th all-American, placing second at 157 pounds. The eighth seed and the lowest seed in the tournament to make the finals, Johnston lost an 8-5 decision to Michigan’s Ryan Bertin in the title match. Johnston ends the season with a 26-8 record.
Perry became Iowa’s 127th all-American, placing second at 165 pounds. The fourth seed, Perry lost a 5-2 decision to second-seed Johny Hendricks of Oklahoma State in the finals. He ends the season with a 27-5 record.
