Hawkeyes To Offer Three Clinics In January

Dec. 20, 2005

IOWA CITY – Head Softball Coach Gayle Blevins and the Iowa softball program will host three camps during the month of January. The camps are focused towards both coaches and players with varying ages and skill levels.

A high school winter clinic will be held January 7-8 inside the “Bubble.” This camp is designed for high school students grades 9-12 who are serious about their softball skills. Each clinic is limited to 80 participants and will focus on all aspects of the game. The deadline to register has been extended to December 23.

A youth clinic will be held inside the “Bubble” on January 21 from 1-4 p.m. The youth camp is intended for kids from second to eighth grade and will be modified for each skill and age level. Parents and coaches are welcome to observe the three-hour clinic. The first 150 kids will be accepted.

The 19th annual coaches clinic will be held in the “Bubble” on January 28 with special guest clinician John Tschida. Tschida is one of the elite coaches in NCAA softball and has led St. Thomas (MN) to consecutive Division III national championships. His coaching staff has also been named the NFCA National Coaching Staff of the Year in both 2004 and 2005. The pre-registration deadline is January 20.

“When we first started at Iowa, it was our goal to create camps and clinics to give back to the community,” Blevins said. “We as a staff want to be able to reach out to the state of Iowa and the Midwest through these camps. It is our hope that we are able to train both athletes and coaches at any level in all aspects of the game.”
