THIBODAUX, LA — The University of Iowa men’s tennis team defeated Nicholls State today, 4-3. The Hawkeyes won three singles matches and had two doubles wins.
In singles competition, sophomore Bart van Monsjou was defeated by Sebastien Normand in the No. 1 match, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2. In the No. 2 spot, freshman Christian Bierich was defeated by Vlad-Lucian Popa, 6-4, 6-7, 10-7. Sophomore J.P. Ritchie gained a win for Iowa at the No. 3 spot by defeating Denis Borisevich, 7-5, 6-3. In the No. 4 match, senior Chaitu Malempati was defeated by Alexandru Silav, 6-4, 6-2. Senior Brett Taylor defeated Ricardo van Bolderi in the No. 5 spot, 6-1, 4-6, 6-4.
In doubles competition, Nicholls State was victorious in the No. 1 match. Taylor and Ritchie were defeated by Normand and Popa, 8-4. In the No. 2 match, the Iowa team of van Monsjou and Malempati defeated Borisvech and Silav, 8-2.
With this win, the Hawkeyes climb to 5-3. They will play again Friday when they face Southeastern Louisiana in Hammond, LA. Competition will begin at 12 p.m.
