Lytle an All-Star

IOWA CITY – Former University of Iowa shortstop Andy Lytle played in the Class A New York-Penn League All-Star game Wednesday night in Aberdeen, MD. Lytle, who is playing for the Mahoning Valley Scrappers, helped his American League squad to a 4-1 win.

Lytle, a shortstop, is hitting .303 with six doubles,17 RBIs and 10 stolen bases in his first professional season.

The Denver, CO, native was selected in the 25th round of Major League Baseball’s 2005 First-Year Player Draft by the Cleveland Indians. He was the 754th player taken overall.

At Iowa, Lytle was a third-team all-Big Ten selection in 2005, starting all 57. As a senior, he hit .338 with six doubles, two triples, two home runs and 36 RBIs. Lytle also led the team with 20 stolen bases.
