The University of Iowa field hockey team defeated Boston University 4-2 this afternoon. The Hawkeyes evened there record at 4-4 and dropped Boston’s record to 2-4. The four Hawkeye goals were scored by senior Heather Schnepf, junior Kadi Sickel, sophomores Lauren Pfeiffer and Caitlin McCurdy.

Boston took an early lead when junior Sarah Shute squeaked her fourth goal of the season past Hawkeye goalkeeper Lissa Munley during the 23rd minute. Boston’s lead did not last for long. Iowa was given a penalty corner only two minutes after Boston’s goal. Although the initial shot from the penalty corner was saved, Sickel was able to rebound the ball and guide it into the goal. With the score tied and only one minute remaining in the half, the Hawkeyes were awarded their third penalty corner. Sickel pushed the ball to the top of the circle where Schnepf blasted in the Hawkeyes second goal of the game, making the halftime score 2-1.

During the 37th minute, the Hawkeyes were awarded another penalty corner but they were not able to convert. However, 3 minutes later Pfeiffer was granted a penalty stroke in which she made, making the score 3-1 in favor of Iowa. The final Iowa goal was scored during the 44th minute of play when McCurdy took a pass from Pfeiffer and slipped the ball past the Boston goalkeeper. With only five seconds remaining in the game, senior Amy Seaman converted on her first goal of the season. Making the final score 4-2.

Iowa returns to action tomorrow at 12 p.m. (CDT) against Providence College in Providence, RI.
