St. Paul, MN – Dartmouth handed the University of Iowa women’s soccer team a 5-0 defeat Sunday at the Gopher Invitational. Dartmouth netted four second half goals in the final 15 minutes of play for the win.

The Hawkeyes held a potent Dartmouth offense to just one goal off of 11 shots in the first half. Dartmouth’s lone first half goal came in the 35th minute from Monica Martin, who scored on a cross at the top of the six-yard box. Junior goalkeeper Lindsey Boldt recorded six of her nine saves in the first half to keep the match at 1-0 heading to halftime.

Iowa’s defense once again held Dartmouth in the early stages of the second period, but Dartmouth took advantage of some Hawkeye miscues in the late stages of the match. The Big Green scored goals in the 76th, 80th, 85th and 86th minute to seal the victory.

Junior Melisa Kaetterhenry recorded Iowa’s only shots in the match. Goldenberg tallied two attempts, one of which was on goal.

Junior Claire Goldenberg along with sophomores Kelsey Shaw and Kelly Warner were named to the Gopher Invitational all-tournament team.

“Dartmouth finished the match very well when we failed to clear the ball on defense,” Head Coach Ron Rainey said. “Hopefully we learn from this match and can take some things heading into the Big Ten season.”

Iowa opens Big Ten play Friday at Northwestern. Match time is set for 4 p.m.
