IOWA CITY – Sophomore pitcher Brittany Weil has been named Big Ten Pitcher of the Week for her efforts during Iowa’s five-game road trip last week. This is the first time Weil has earned the award.
Weil collected two wins against both Indiana and Purdue along with a non-conference victory over Northern Illinois. The Garden Grove, CA, native threw 27 innings with a 0.78 earned run average and 27 strikeouts last week.
Weil turned in two impressive performances against Indiana to open the Big Ten season. She threw 13-consecutive scoreless innings and did not allow a walk in the two-game series. Weil also struck out 12 batters and gave up only six hits against the Hoosiers.
The Hawkeyes are 13-3 since Weil returned to the lineup March 13 after missing the first five weeks with a head injury. She has a 10-1 record and leads the team with a 0.95 earned run average.
Iowa returns to action Tuesday when they host Iowa State in the Hy-Vee Cy-Hawk series at 4 p.m.
