IOWA CITY – The University of Iowa soccer team finished its 2007 spring schedule by hosting the All-Iowa Tournament April 21. The Hawkeyes defeated Northern Iowa, 1-0, and drew with Drake, 2-2. The Hawkeyes prevailed 4-3 in a penalty shootout against the Bulldogs to finish with a 4-1-4 record.
Melissa Kaetterhenry gave Iowa a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute with a goal assisted by Stephanie Hyink. Drake equalized later in the match, but the Hawkeyes took a 2-1 lead with a 25-yard rocket from Heather Windsor. Drake netted a last minute equalizer to send the match to penalties, with Iowa coming out on top, 4-3. Iowa was named the All-Iowa Tournament champion after the two wins.
“This was a good way to end the spring,” Head Coach Ron Rainey said. “The team moved the ball around well in the game against Drake. We hope the spring will be a good start to improvements this summer and into next fall.”
