Three Hawkeyes Named All-Regional

IOWA CITY – Junior Emily Nichols and sophomores Colleen McGlaughlin and Brittany Weil have been named second team NFCA Mideast All-Region. Nichols was selected as a catcher, McGlaughlin as a utility player and Weil as a pitcher.

Nichols led the team with a .400 batting average, 76 hits, 12 home runs 48 RBI, a .679 slugging percentage and a .450 on base percentage. She set a Big Ten record with a 28-game hitting streak and also broke Iowa’s career home run record. Nichols was a first team all-regional pick as a freshman and a second team selection as a sophomore.

McGlaughlin started 24 games at second base, 19 games at third base, 13 games in left field and one game at both shortstop and in right field. She was second on the team with a .339 batting average and, along with Nichols, led the team with 15 doubles.

Weil, who missed the first 24 games of the season with a head injury, led the Hawkeyes with an 18-8 record with a 1.69 earned run average and 178 strikeouts. She held opponents to a .219 batting averge and walked only 45 batters in 174 innings of work.
