Ann Arbor, MI – The University of Iowa field hockey team was upset by the No. 12 Michigan Wolverines, 3-2 in double overtime Friday afternoon. Michigan scored two goals in the final five minutes of regulation to force overtime and won on a goal scored in the 90th minute.

The third-ranked Hawkeyes were led by Lauren Pfeiffer as she scored Iowa’s first goal in the 12th minute to make the score 1-0. Not long after knocking in her first goal, Pfeiffer scored her second goal of the afternoon in the 26th minute. Pfeiffer’s goals were assisted by both Tricia Dean and Caroline Blaum.

Michigan brought the score to 2-1 in the 65th minute off a goal by Paige Laytos. With just over one minute remaining in regulation, Michigan forced overtime with a goal from Lucia Belassi.

The first overtime was a midfield battle with only one shot from either team. Iowa’s Katie Naughton fired a shot that went wide of the cage in the 77th minute.

Michigan nearly netted the game-winning goal in the 89th minute off a penalty corner, but Roz Ellis came up with a defensive save to keep the match even at 2-2.

The No. 3 Hawkeyes will return to action Sunday against Central Michigan in Kalamazoo, MI at 11 am (CT).
