CEDAR CITY, UT – The Hawkeyes defeated Southern Utah Friday 195.400-194.725. Jenifer Simbhudas won the all-around for the fifth consecutive meet, scoring 39.275. Simbhudas also took the floor title with a 9.9 which is the second time she has seen that score on floor this season.
On vault, J. Simbhudas tied for first with Southern Utah’s Elise Wheeler, scoring a 9.85, while Rebecca Simbhudas tied for third with Shannon Coughlin of Southern Utah, posting a 9.8. Brandi Loffer and Katie Burke tied for fifth in the event with a 9.775 and Kara Pinjuv tied for eighth with Southern Utah’s Kellie Dangerfield, scoring 9.7. Houry Gebeshian rounded out Iowa’s vault competitors, scoring 9.65 to tie for tenth with the Thunderbirds’ Melissa Johnson.
On bars, Iowa scored a team total 48.5. R. Simbhudas tied for first with Wheeler, scoring 9.8. J. Simbhudas tied for third with Southern Utah’s Erin Morgan, scoring 9.75, while Burke tied for sixth with the Thunderbirds’ Jenna Vogt, scoring 9.675. Loffer placed eighth with a 9.65 while Gebeshian tied for ninth with Ariel Lamb of Southern Utah, scoring 9.625. Brittany Logan placed 11th with an 8.9.
The Hawkeyes claimed the top three beam spots and earned a total 48.975 in the event. R. Simbhudas took the title with a 9.875 while Gebeshian finished second with a 9.825 and Pinjuv took third, scoring 9.8. J. Simbhudas finished in a three-way tie for fourth with Southern Utah’s Katie Hicks and Dangerfield with a score of 9.775. Burke tied for seventh with Wheeler posting a 9.7 and Loffer placed 10th, scoring 9.5.
Iowa scored a 49.025 on floor and saw a large contribution from J. Simbhudas with her first-place 9.9 performance. Pinjuv was Iowa’s next top performer, earning a 9.825 to tie for fourth with Hicks. Loffer tied for sixth with Dangerfield posting a 9.8 and Jenny Donar tied for eighth with the Thunderbirds’ Tehani Douglas, scoring 9.775. Burke and Gebeshian rounded out Iowa’s floor competitors. Burke finished 10th with a 9.725 while Gebeshian finished 11th, scoring 9.625.
J. Simbhudas placed first in the all-around with a 39.275 while Burke finished third, scoring 38.875. Gebeshian and Loffer tied for fourth each posting a 38.725.
The Hawkeyes will have a week of rest before returning to competition at the Big Ten Championships, March 29. Competition will take place at the University of Michigan’s Crisler Arena at 1 p.m. (CST).
