TUCSON, AZ – The University of Iowa men’s golf team finished its second day of competition at the National Invitational Tournament. The Hawkeyes recorded an 18-hole score of 296 (+8) Monday. Iowa is currently tied for 13th in the 15-team field, with a 36-hole score of 595 (+19). TCU remains the front-runner after day two with a 565 (-11).
Junior Cole Peevler led the Hawkeyes Monday, firing a five-under par 67. He is tied for ninth and is five shots off the pace with a 142 (-2). Peevler’s 67 is also the low round for the tournament. Freshman Vince India rebounded Monday, shooting a one-over par 73. India is now tied for 50th with a 36-hole score of 150 (+6). Senior Dan Holterhaus recorded a 77 (+5). He is now tied for 44th overall. Additionally, Todd Larson shot another 79 (+7) and is now tied for 75th with a 158 (+14). Adam Miller is also tied for 75th after recording an 83 Monday.
“I am very pleased with Cole’s performance,” said Head Coach Mark Hankins. “As a team, I am disappointed as we struggled today. We need to handle our emotions better tomorrow. Each tournament our goal is to improve each round and that will be our goal tomorrow.”
The Hawkeyes will complete play at the 2008 National Invitational Tournament with 18 holes Tuesday. Competition is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. CT.
