Hawkeyes To Face Illinois In Big Ten Tournament

IOWA CITY – The University of Iowa softball team will be the No. 3 seed in next week’s Big Ten Tournament and will face No. 6 seed Illinois Friday morning at 9 a.m. in Evanston, IL. The game will be televised live on the Big Ten Network.

The Hawkeyes will be looking for their third-straight win over the Fighting Illini after sweeping a two-game series, 5-2 and 12-6, to wrap up the regular season. The Hawkeyes finished third in the Big Ten with a 14-6 conference mark while Illinois finished tied for sixth with an 8-12 record, but finished ahead of the Spartans after tiebreakers were used.

Northwestern and Michigan both finished with 18-2 Big Ten records and were still deadlocked when all the tiebreakers were enforced. Northwestern was awarded the No. 1 seed and host-site by way of a coin flip.
