Iowa Finishes Day Two At Golden Gopher Invite

WAYZATA, MN – After a much improved second day at the Golden Gopher Invitational, The University of Iowa men’s golf team is sitting in fourth place. The Hawkeyes currently hold a 580 (+4) after their incredible 281 (-7) second round. That score ties the fourth best 18-hole score in school history. Louisiana State is in first after 36 holes with a 573 (-3).

Cole Peevler led the Hawkeyes today with an excellent 67 (-5) which put him in a tie for third place at 141 (-3). That score was a stroke shy of the senior’s personal best but good enough to tie the fourth best 18-hole score in school history. Vince India posted a 69 (-3) for the day after picking up a birdie on the 18th. The sophomore is sitting in a tie for tenth right now with a 144 (E). Freshman Barrett Kelpin had a strong round today of 70 (-2) to improved on yesterday’s score by 12. Brad Hopfinger shot a 75 (+3) for the day and is currently in a tie for 39th with several golfers including Kelpin. Both golfers have a 152 (+8) after 36 holes. Additionally, Chris Brant is sitting in a tie for 35th with a 151 (+7). The freshman finished today with a 78 (+6).

“Today was nice for us, but we all know that tomorrow is a brand new day,” Head Coach Mark Hankins said. “We’re going to go out there and bring in the five best scores that we can”.

The final round of the Golden Gopher Invitational will conclude tomorrow. Golfing will begin at approximately 8 a.m. (CT).
