IOWA CITY, IA – In the final tune-up before the regular season, the University of Iowa men’s and women’s gymnastics teams will compete in the annual Black and Gold Intrasquad meet this Saturday inside the UI Fieldhouse.
The women are slated to compete on vault, uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise while the men will compete on floor exercise, pommel horse, still rings, vault, parallel bar and high bar.
“The Black and Gold meet is always a treat,” said men’s Head Coach Tom Dunn. “In the end, this meet will be the best indication to date of the success that may be possible in 2009.”
“It’s always a fun event,” added women’s Head Coach Larissa Libby. “It gives us a great look at our team to see what we have depth-wise and it should help us figure out a line up moving forward.”
The men open the season Jan. 17 at the Windy City Invite. The women open the season at home Jan. 9 against LSU and Southeast Missouri State.
