Iowa Sweeps NJCAA Champs

SCOTTSDALE, AZ –The University of Iowa men’s golf team traveled to Scottsdale, AZ, Saturday to take on the 2007 NJCAA Champions, Scottsdale Community College. Iowa won the match play dual 6-0 in dominating fashion.

Senior Cole Peevler led the Hawkeyes with a 7-5 (7-up with five holes remaining) victory while sophomore Vince India finished early with a 6-5 win. Freshman Chris Brant and sophomore Brad Hopfinger both finished the match with 4-3 defeats while freshmen Brad George and Barrett Kelpin finished 2-up.

Competition was held on Pete Dye’s championship golf course at Red Mountain Ranch Country Club. The par 72 is one of the golf architect’s most prestigious courses and is surrounded by elevated bunkers and multiple views of the valley and mountains on the west.

The Hawkeyes will compete next in Coral Springs, FL, at the first ever Big Ten Match Play Championships on Feb 13-14.
