Rain Hinders Day Two At NCAA Championships

May 27, 2009

TOLEDO, OH – The second round of the 2009 NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championships remains incomplete as thunderstorms moving through Northwest Ohio caused a four-and-a-half hour rain delay, Wednesday. Only 15 schools were able to complete their rounds and top seed Oklahoma State is leading the 30-team field with an even-par 568. The Black and Gold were only able to complete the first half of their second round, but are currently shooting four-over on the round and are in 18th place.

Despite adverse conditions, the Hawkeyes are working on what looks to be a solid second round. Vince India is currently leading the Hawkeyes. The sophomore is four-over par this round with nine holes to go and tied for 35th. Freshman Barrett Kelpin and sophomore Brad Hopfinger are both tied for 61st. With nine holes remaining, the two are six-up for the tournament. Senior Cole Peevler is seven-over par and tied for 73rd while freshman Chris Brant is 12-up and tied for 133rd.

“I think we handled today’s situation pretty well,” said Head Coach Mark Hankins. “It’s a tough scenario when you are on a roll and have to stop like we did. If we continue to play golf like we did on the front nine, we’ll be alright. We just have to overcome it and put together a solid finish.”
