Softball Recruit Earns Impressive Honor

June 17, 2009

BROKEN ARROW, OK – Future Hawkeye softball player Chelsea Lyon was recently named the Oklahoma Gatorade Softball Player of the Year. The recent graduate of Broken Arrow High School was honored to receive the award.

“This is big honor,” Lyon told Doug Quinn of the Broken Arrow Ledger. “It’s a tribute to all of those who worked so hard to make the Broken Arrow program what it is.”

“Lyon, who started for BAHS coach Randall King since she was a freshman, helped the Lady Tigers to state championships in 2006 and 2008,” Quinn said. “As a senior, the 5-11 Lyon was remarkable as a pitcher and batter.”

Lyon was one of four recruits to sign a National Letter of Intent to attend the University of Iowa last fall.
