IOWA CITY, IA – University of Iowa junior Vince India fired a 220 (+4) on his way to winning the 2009 Iowa Open Golf Championship Saturday, a feat very few amateurs accomplish. The competition, which included a mixed field of amateur and professional golfers, was played on Blue Top Ridge in Riverside, IA.
Joining India in the tournaments top-10 were junior Brad Hopfinger and sophomore Chris Brant. Hopfinger carded a 225 (+9) to finish tied for tenth overall, but placed fourth in the amateur division. Brant tied for second in the amateur division after firing a 224 (+8) and tied for sixth overall. This marks the second top-10 finish of the summer for Brant, as he placed third in the Iowa Amateur.
India and the rest of Head Coach Mark Hankins’ Hawkeyes will now turn their focus to the 2009 collegiate season, beginning Aug. 31. Iowa will represent the Big Ten Conference, and along with Riverside Casino and Resort, co-host top teams from 14 other conferences in Golfweek’s 2009 Collegiate Conference Challenge. The 54-hole Challenge will include some of the best Division I programs in the country. Teams will play 18 holes Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. This will be the first collegiate competition held at Blue Top Ridge.
