ANN ARBOR, MI – – The University of Iowa field hockey team defeated Big Ten foe Michigan Friday in Ann Arbor, MI, 3-2. The Hawkeyes move to 3-5 overall and 1-0 in Big Ten play with the victory.

“We did not handle their pressure well in the first half,” said Head Coach Tracey Griesbaum. “I felt good about our halftime adjustments. The seniors displayed great leadership and we capitalized on our corners in the second half. Overall, I thought the team played great today.”

The Maize and Blue struck first in the 24th minute as Meredith Way scored to give Michigan a 1-0 advantage. Minutes later, Bryn Bain scored to push the Michigan lead to 2-0. The Wolverines would lead at halftime, 2-0.

The Black and Gold came out firing in the second half. Senior Meghan Beamesderfer scored on a corner in the 40th minute, cutting the lead to 2-1. Senior Tricia Dean and junior Sarah Pergine were credited with assists. Moments later, senior Jess Werley scored her team-leading seventh goal of the season to tie the score at two.
