Durant and Hippen Named to All-Tournament Team

March 1, 2010

IOWA CITY, IA – The Big Ten/Big East Challenge all-tournament team was announced today by CollegeBaseball360.com. Sophomore pitcher Jarred Hippen and senior outfielder Ryan Durant was named to the second team after having stellar performances against Big East teams and helping propel Iowa to two victories over the weekend.

Hippen, a native of Rockwell, IL, earned the win in Iowa’s 6-3 victory over Rutgers Friday. The lefty went eight and two-third innings, which was both a career best and a conference season-best. The last time a Hawkeyes went eight and two-third innings was Nick Brown against Indiana Apr. 10, 2009. Hippen also struck out eight Scarlet Knights, one away from his personal best (9, against Michigan Mar. 28, 2009) and one shy of tying the Big Ten’s game-high this season.

Durant went 6-for-11 with a double, two-run homer, six RBI, a walk and two sacrifice flies to lead Iowa. He hit a whopping .909 slugging percentage, as well from the clean-up spot. The Eldridge, IA, native’s two sac flies this season is the most of any player in the Big Ten.
