No. 54 Iowa Tames Tigers

IOWA CITY, IA – The University of Iowa women’s tennis team posted its seventh victory of the season over Missouri Saturday at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex. The No. 54 Hawkeyes tamed the Tigers, recording a 5-2 win.

Hawkeye doubles continued their success on the courts earning the seventh doubles point of the season. Jessica Young and Kelcie Klockenga were the first to finish, downing Sofia Ayala and Kristen Bleakley, 8-4, for their eighth doubles win of the season. Sonja Molnar and Merel Beelen followed suit, posting an 8-4 win over Kaitlyn Ritchie and Mallory Weber.

Iowa singles started strong with No. 77 Molnar, Young, Dorr and Klockenga all recording wins. Molnar took down Jamie Mera, 6-0, 6-4. Young defeated Maria Christensen in an intense match, 6-1, 7-6(5). Klockenga secured the Iowa victory with a 6-0, 6-4 win over Ayala, while Alexis Dorr recorded a 6-0, 6-4 win over Andrea Lewis. Ally Majercik also recorded a win over Maureen Modesto in a non-counting match, 7-2.

Head Coach Katie Dougherty and the Hawkeyes are back in action tomorrow morning at the HTRC. The team faces No. 24 DePaul at 10 a.m.
