Molnar Earns Second Player Of The Week Honor

IOWA CITY, IA – University of Iowa sophomore Sonja Molnar was named Big Ten Player of the Week for the second time this season. Molnar earned the accolade after leading No. 18 Iowa to two wins last week over No. 68 Wichita State and No. 33 Tulsa.

The Guelph, Ontario native, ranked No. 74 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, cruised to four victories last weekend. Her efforts included singles victories over 34th ranked Lutfiana Budiharto and 95th ranked Alexandra Kichoutkin. Molnar and teammate Merel Beelen, the 23rd ranked duo in the nation, defeated No. 35 Karaitiana/Kichoutkin of Tulsa and No. 22 Dalmacio/Damaschin of Wichita State.

Molnar was also named the conference’s player of the week March 9th. She is the second player in program history to earn the honor twice in a single season.

Iowa welcomes Michigan and Michigan State this weekend to the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex. Matches are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
