CHARLOTTE, FL — Former Hawkeye standout Jason White saw some action in the Orioles’ 4-3 victory over Tampa Bay today in spring training at Tropicana Field. White entered the game as a pinch runner in the top the ninth for third basemen Brandon Waring and scored Baltimore’s game-winning run, he stayed in at second for the bottom of the inning.
White was also called up on March 20th against Pittsburgh, but did not see any action in the game.
White was selected by the Balitmore Orioles in the 17th Round (519th overall) of the 2007 amateur entry draft. White, a shortstop from Fort Collins, CO, earned two all-Big Ten awards in his career at Iowa. He was a third-team member in 2005 as a second baseman. But his senior season, the shortstop he was named to the first team after hitting .342 with 10 home runs, 38 RBIs, 17 stolen bases and a league-leading 69 runs scored. In conference play, White hit .323 with eight home runs and 23 RBIs.
