IOWA CITY, IA – The University of Iowa baseball team will compete in two mid-week games this week. The Hawkeyes will host Western Illinois Tuesday at Duane Banks Field. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. This will be the fourth game of five scheduled between the two teams this season. Iowa swept the Leathernecks in a three-game home-opening series Mar. 26-28.
The Iowa baseball team will step out of regular season play Wednesday, playing a seven-inning exhibition against the I-Cubs, the AAA affiliate of the Chicago Cubs, at Principal Park. Tickets for the game will be $7 ($4 children) for general admission, $10 for Reserved Grandstand and Field Box seats and $12 for Club Box seats. Wednesday’s game will be the first for new I-Cubs manager, Ryne Sandberg. A 2005 Hall of Fame inductee, Sandberg enjoyed a 15-year career in the Major Leagues, the majority of those spent with the Chicago Cubs.
This will be fourth time since head coach Jack Dahm took the helm that Iowa will play the Iowa Cubs. The Hawkeyes played the I-Cubs tough in 2008, but dropped the exhibition game 3-1. The game featured an RBI double in the top of the seventh from Kurtis Muller.
