IOWA CITY – University of Iowa senior softball student-athlete Katie Brown has been named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic all-District second team. Brown was one of 14 Division I players selected to the District 7 second team.
Brown, a native of Spirit Lake, IA, has started all 44 games for Iowa. She leads the team with 27 RBI and is second with five home runs. Brown delivered a game-winning RBI single against Purdue and had four RBI in a win over Wisconsin earlier this season. She also has a team-best nine games with two or more RBI.
Brown is an elementary education major and is a two-time academic all-Big Ten selection. She has been a member of the Dean’s List for two semesters and is a three-time Presidential Committee on Athletics Award winner.
Brown’s honor marks the sixth-straight year a Hawkeye softball player has been named academic all-District. Eight players under Head Coach Gayle Blevins have earned the honor a total of 15 times.
Brown and the Hawkeyes return to action this weekend at Minnesota. Game one of the two-game series is scheduled for Saturday at 1 p.m. and can be seen live on the Big Ten Network.
