Former Hawkeye Reliever Earns Midwest League Honors

IOWA CITY, IA — Former University of Iowa relief pitcher Steve Turnbull has been named the Best Reliever in the Midwest League by Baseball America.

Turnbull has appeared in 45 games (53.2 innings), notched 20 saves and three victories, and amassed 56 strikeouts for the Lansing Lugnuts. The 20 saves ranks third best in the league.

A native White Bear Lake, Minn., Turnbull was a huge part of the Iowa Hawkeye bullpen his final two seasons (2008-09). In 2009, he compiled a 5.29 ERA in 20 appearances with 43 strikeouts in 32.1 innings pitched. He was chosen by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 17th round in the 2009 Major League Draft.
