IOWA CITY, Iowa – – The 19th-ranked University of Iowa field hockey lost to Miami (OH) Sunday in its home opener at Grant Field, 5-1.
Miami (OH) scored first in the sixth minute. Jackie Nguyen chipped in a goal from close to give the RedHawks an early advantage. Kate Snyder scored at the 13:07 mark to push the Miami (OH) lead to 2-0, which would hold until halftime.
In the early moments of the second half, Mary Hull scored for the RedHawks to push the lead to 3-0. The Hawkeyes answered minutes later. Freshman Kelsey Mitchell scored her first collegiate goal to make the score 3-1. Miami (OH) added two additional goals to seal the victory, 5-1.
Iowa (0-3) will return to action tomorrow in Iowa City. The Hawkeyes will host Brown at Noon at Grant Field. Admission is free.
