LOS ANGELES — University of Iowa junior Sonja Molnar won her only match on the first day of competition at the ITA All-American Invitational.
Molnar posted a 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 victory over Courtney McLane of Alabama in the opening round. The second round of the tournament was scheduled to be completed on Tuesday as well, but was postponed until Wednesday due to rain.
“She played pretty well,” commented Assistant Coach Jesse Medvene-Collins. “The match was up-and-down, but she did a really good job of taking control in the third set. It was a good first step to what will hopefully be a long run at the ITA All-American.”
Molnar will resume play tomorrow at the Riviera Tennis Club when she squares off against Penn State’s Petra Januskova.
