ITA Central Regional Comes To Close For Iowa

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Iowa women’s tennis team closed play at the ITA Central Regional Sunday. Iowa ended the event with four singles victories and a 2-3 record in doubles.

In singles, junior Sonja Molnar fell in a main-draw quarterfinal match-up against Natalia Pintusava of Minnesota 2-6, 6-1, 6-2. Molnar finished the tournament 3-1 overall and is now 10-4 for the season. Senior Alexis Dorr also competed Sunday, defeating Kansas’s Monica Pezzotti 6-3, 6-2 in main draw consolation action.

In late Saturday night action, senior Jessica Young fell to Bonny Davidson of Tulsa 6-2, 6-2. In double’s consolation play, Young and Dorr fell to Missouri’s Weber/Ritchie 8-4.

Iowa will return to action Nov. 4-7 the USTA/ITA Intercollegiate Indoor in Flushing, N.Y. The tournament will be Iowa’s last competition of 2010 fall season.
