Women's Soccer Successful in Classroom

IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa women’s soccer team was named to the 2011 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) College Team Academic Award list. Teams must have a team grade-point average of 3.0 or higher to qualify for this honor.

Head Coach Ron Rainey’s squad boasts a team grade-point average of 3.17 to make the prestigious list for the fifth straight year. The Black and Gold are one of 10 Big Ten women’s soccer teams to be honored. Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northwestern, Ohio State, Penn State, Purdue and Wisconsin were all among the awarded universities.

The NSCAA honors men’s and women’s teams across the United States. This year, 787 programs earned the academic award (219 men’s and 568 women’s teams), including 153 institutions who were represented on both men’s and women’s lists.
