Iowa in 8th at Big 10 Championships

FRENCH LICK, Ind. – The University of Iowa men’s golf team sits in eighth place after two rounds at the Big Ten Championships. The 26th-ranked Hawkeyes posted a 54-hole total of 614 (+38) with first and second rounds of 305 (+17) and 309 (+21), respectively. Illinois (592, +16) holds the lead as Michigan State (595, +19) and Indiana (597, +21) round out the top-three. Action is being held on the nationally recognized Pete Dye Course, a 7,152-yard, par 72 tracks at the French Lick Resort, in French Lick, Ind.

Seniors Chris Brant and Barrett Kelpin are leading the way for Iowa and own a share of 24th place with 36 holes to play. Brant posted an opening round of 78 (+6), but made moves up the leaderboard with a second round of 75 (+3). Kelpin posted rounds of 76 (+4) and 77 (+5) as he and Brant finished the day with a 36-hole mark of 153 (+9).

Freshman Ian Vandersee is tied for 33rd after leading the Black and Gold through round one. His opening round of 73 (+1) was a team best for the day, but Vandersee struggled to find his rhythm during the second round and finished with a mark of 83 (+11). The West Des Moines, Iowa native owns a two round total of 156 (+12) with two days to go.

Senior Brad George is tied for 39th with a two-round tally of 157 (+13) and sophomore Steven Ihm (160, +16) owns a share of 47th.

Saturday’s third round action will begin with tee times at 8 a.m. (CT). Iowa will be paired with Penn State and begins at approximately 9:20 a.m. Fans can follow live scoring at golfstat.com.
