IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa head women’s tennis coach Katie Dougherty announced today that Courtney Nagle will join the Hawkeye program as an assistant coach. Nagle joins the staff after serving one season as an assistant coach at the University of Colorado.
“I am thrilled to have Courtney join the Hawkeye tennis family,” said Dougherty. “She has had a lot of experience in both college tennis and on the WTA tour. Courtney is a great technical and tactical coach with the passion that will make our student-athletes better. She will be a great mentor to this young team. “
Nagle’s coaching experience includes stops at Princeton University (2007-09) and her alma mater, the University of Oregon (2005, 2010), where she was a member of two NCAA tournament teams. Nagle joined the Ducks as a freshman walk-on, but she earned a scholarship by her sophomore year and in 2003 became Oregon’s first women’s doubles All-American in school history. That same year, she earned a berth at the NCAA singles tournament and advanced to the NCAA doubles quarterfinals.
While in Eugene, she helped Oregon reach its highest ITA ranking (No. 22) in program history and was twice named Oregon’s Most Improved Player. In 2004, she was a recipient of the Oregon Athletics Pride Award and earned the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) National Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship Award. When her eligibility expired, she remained in Eugene to serve as the Assistant Director of the Nike Junior Tennis Camp for one season.
Following her collegiate career, Nagle competed across the globe as a world-ranked tennis professional, winning 15 career double titles on the World Tennis Association Tour (WTA). She was named World Team Tennis Rookie of the Year while competing for the Philadelphia Freedoms in 2010, and reached as high as No. 97 in the WTA doubles ranking in 2009.

Nagle’s appointment is on an interim basis. She replaces Jesse Medvene-Collins, who accepted an assistant coaching position at the College of William and Mary.
Nagle is affiliated with the United State Professional Tennis Association (USTA) and the Professional Tennis Registry. She earned her Professional Level 1 Certification in 2011. She’s graduated from the University of Oregon in 2005, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in human physiology with a minor in Spanish.
