Baseball Hosts Black Hawk College Sunday

IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa baseball team will make its fall debut Sunday afternoon, hosting Black Hawk College at 1 p.m. at Duane Banks Field. Admission is free of charge.

The Hawkeyes return 20 letterwinners, six positional starters and the designated hitter from the 2012 squad that finished 23-27 overall and 10-14 in the Big Ten.

The Iowa pitching staff welcomes back two of its three starters, and five relievers. Sophomore Sasha Kuebel, a second team All-Big Ten, All-Big Ten freshman team and Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America selection, will pitch for the Hawkeyes on Sunday.

Iowa also has 10 new faces on the 2012-13 roster, including Blake Hickman, a 20th round draft pick of the Chicago Cubs. Junior transfer Trevor Kenyon, the brother of former Hawkeye Zach Kenyon, played at Black Hawk College the last two seasons.

The Hawkeyes will play four games during the fall ball season. On Oct. 6-7, Iowa travels to Omaha, Neb., for a pair of contests against Creighton. The team rounds out its fall season by hosting Iowa Central Community College on Oct. 12 at 6 p.m. at Banks Field.
