In our countdown to the start of the 2013 softball season, we will feature all 24 Hawkeyes over the next month.
Holly Hoffman is a redshirt freshman from Osceola, Ind. The former Penn High School standout wears No. 55 for the Hawkeyes. The catcher joined the team in Jan. 2012 after graduating from high school a semester early and redshirted during the 2012 season. Hoffman was a three-time Indiana all-state, all-conference and all-district selection.
Iowa opens the season Feb. 8 in Houston, Texas. The Hawkeyes face Lipscomb and UT Arlington at the Hilton Houston Plaza Classic.
What was the key factor in your recruitment that led you to Iowa City and the Hawkeye softball program?
“The Iowa softball legacy and the school itself.”
What facet of your game has improved the most since last spring?
“My catching skills, especially my blocking.”
What is the team goal for 2013?
“To win the Big Ten and make it to NCAA Regionals.”
What are your individual goals for the upcoming season?
“To be a team leader and help my fellow Hawks achieve greatness.”
Is there any significance to the jersey number you wear?
“My favorite number is five but it was taken. I figured 55 would be twice as good and have twice the luck.”
Who is the most influential person in your life?
“My mother and father. They equally shaped who I am today.”
What is your first softball memory?
“Getting hit in the ankle by a ball and crying my eyes out, or getting hit in the face and crying. I’m not sure which one came first.”
What is your favorite kind of candy?
“All candy, but probably Hot Tamales.”
Do you have any hobbies?
“Other than softball, I love to sleep, read, hunt, and exercise.”
If you were cast on a reality TV show, which one would you prefer to be on and why?
“Scare Tactics, because I scare Kayla (Massey) all the time.”
What is your favorite TV show?
“Swamp People. I watch every episode with my father.”
What did you want to grow-up to be when you were a kid?
“An FBI agent. I was obsessed with Miss Congeniality.”
What is your favorite place to be on campus?
“The hot tub at the REC.”
What is your favorite movie?
“Blades of Glory.”
What is your most prized possession?
“My collection of movies.”
What is your favorite food/meal?
“I love everything. Everything. I love going to Falbo’s Pizza.”
What is one place you want to visit?
“Scotland. I am half Scottish.”
What would be your ideal career?
“An Orthopedic Surgeon.”
What is one word that describes you?
“Hilarious.”
