IOWA CITY, Iowa — Head coach Ron Rainey and the University of Iowa women’s soccer team have announced the 2013 spring schedule, which includes seven matches. The Hawkeyes will compete at the new Indoor Practice Facility for the first time, hosting two matches in the new facility. Iowa also has three fixtures against teams that advanced to the NCAA Championship last fall.
“We are very excited about our spring and the teams we have been able to put together to compete against,” said Rainey, who coached Iowa to a 12-6-3 record in2012. “This spring will offer our returning players an opportunity to not only get better, but establish a team mindset for the upcoming fall season.”
Iowa opens spring play with a home contest against Drake on March 2. Start time is set for 3:30 p.m. inside the Indoor Practice Facility. The Bulldogs posted a 12-5-3 record in the fall. Iowa’s final contest in March is at Missouri on the 9th, with play beginning at 10 a.m. Missouri went 14-7-1 last season and reached the NCAA Tournament.
The Hawkeyes travel to a triangular at Notre Dame on April 6, meeting the Fighting Irish and Grand Valley State. Notre Dame advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Championship in the fall, while Grand Valley State reached the NCAA Division II semifinals.
The Hawkeyes welcome Marquette for the final home match of the spring season on April 13. First touch is set for 10 a.m. The Golden Eagles reached the third round of the NCAA Championship last season. Iowa closes its spring slate April 20 with the Big Ten/Big Twelve Challenge hosted by Iowa State. The Hawkeyes, along with fellow Big Ten squad Minnesota, will meet Iowa State and Kansas. The Cyclones went 10-10-0 last season, while the Jayhawks finished 10-8-2.
