Softball Countdown: Nikki Gentile

In our countdown to the start of the 2013 softball season, we will feature all 24 Hawkeyes.

Nikki Gentile is a junior from Martinez, Calif. The former Alhambra High School standout wears No. 10 for the Hawkeyes. Gentile, a 2012 Academic All-Big Ten honoree, has played in 80 career games, with 34 starts, during her first two seasons. She appeared in 37 contests in 2012, scoring 11 runs and stealing six bases.

Iowa opens the season Feb. 8 in Houston, Texas. The Hawkeyes face Lipscomb and UT Arlington at the Hilton Houston Plaza Classic.

What is the team goal for 2013?
“To win the Big Ten title and win in the postseason.”

What is your favorite kind of candy?
“Gummy bears.”

Do you have any hobbies?
“Designing and making clothes.”

Who is your favorite professional athlete?
“Madison Bumgarner — pitcher for the San Francisco Giants.”

If you were cast on a reality TV show, which one would you prefer to be on and why?
“Say Yes to the Dress.”

What is your favorite TV show?
“Grey’s Anatomy.”

What did you want to grow-up to be when you were a kid?
“I wanted to be a lawyer.”

As a spectator, what is your favorite sport?
“College basketball.”

Is there another talent you wish you had?
“I wish I could beat my boyfriend in Halo 4.”

What is your most prized possession?
“My extensive wardrobe.”

What is your favorite food?
“Mexican food.”

Do you have any superstitions, on or off the playing field?
“I don’t believe in any of that stuff.”

What is your favorite restaurant in the Iowa City area?
“Texas Roadhouse.”

What is one place you want to visit?
“Italy.”
