2 Hawkeyes Earn Preseason All-B1G Honors

IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa sophomores Sasha Kuebel and Jake Yacinich have been selected to the College Sports Madness Preseason All-Big Ten team. Kuebel was named to the first team, while Yacinich was a second team selection.

Kuebel earned Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America, second team All-Big Ten and unanimous All-Big Ten freshman team honors during his first season as a Hawkeye in 2012. The lefthander went 6-0 with a 2.67 ERA over 87.2 innings, tossing two complete games and finishing with 36 strikeouts to 15 walks.

The St. Louis native went 4-0 in Big Ten games, registering a 2.83 ERA over eight starts. Kuebel was the Big Ten Pitcher and co-Freshman of the Week on May 21 after helping Iowa take 2-of-3 games from No. 13 Purdue.

Yacinich appeared in 46 games in 2012, the most of all Hawkeye freshmen and the third most on the team. The shortstop batted .292 with 47 hits in 161 at-bats and had eight doubles, 24 RBIs and 24 runs scored.

The Des Moines, Iowa, native went 9-of-9 in stolen bases and ranked first in the Big Ten and 22nd nationally with 14 sacrifice bunts. Yacinich finished his freshman season with a .388 average with runners on base and a .426 average with runners in scoring position.
