Moore Earns Conference Honor

Jan. 29, 2013

IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa sophomore Nick Moore has been named Big Ten Wrestler of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday. The weekly honor is the first of Moore’s career.

Moore, a 165-pound native of Iowa City, Iowa, climbed to No. 13 in the national polls following an 8-2 win over 10th-ranked Cody Yohn of Minnesota last week. The win helped Iowa earn a 16-15 win over the third-ranked Gophers, and improved Moore’s record to 11-3 overall and 5-0 in the Big Ten.

Moore is the third Hawkeye to earn the weekly conference award this season. Junior Derek St. John was recognized by the conference Dec. 11 and senior Matt McDonough was honored by the Big Ten on Nov. 20.

The third-ranked Hawkeyes (15-1, 5-0) return to the mat Friday when they host top-ranked Penn State (8-0, 5-0) at 8:04 p.m. (CT) on Mediacom Mat at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Tickets are still available by calling the UI Athletic Ticket Office at 800-IA-HAWKS or online at hawkeyesports.com.
