No. 69 Iowa downed by No. 30 Penn State

UNIVERSITY PARK, Penn.— University of Iowa women’s tennis team was downed by No. 30 Penn State, 6-1, today at the Sarni Indoor Tennis Center.

“Penn State played well tonight,” said head coach Katie Dougherty. “They compete very well and brought a lot of fire. Hopefully we learned a lot tonight and need to apply that on Sunday. I’m confident we’ll bounce back.”

The Nittany Lions captured the doubles point with victories at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions.

Freshman Caitlin Hindmarsh picked up a lone singles win at the No. 6 position over Marie Bedard, 3-6, 7-6, 1-0. Hindmarsh’s victory improves her record to 10-2.

The Hawkeyes return to Big Ten action on Sunday when they take on No. 57 Ohio State at 10 a.m. (CT) at the Ohio State Varsity Outdoor Tennis Center in Columbus, Ohio.
