May 6, 2013

IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa baseball team returns to Banks Field for its final midweek game, hosting Nebraska Omaha on Tuesday at 6:05 p.m. (CT).

The meeting will be the rubber match in the season series, as the two squads split the previous four matchups. The Mavericks won 2-of-3 in Wichita, Kan., on March 16-18, winning 9-6 in the opener and 7-6 in the finale. Iowa won the middle game of the series, 4-1, and a midweek game in Omaha, 3-0, on April 16.

The Hawkeyes bring a 17-25 record into the midweek matchup after dropping 2-of-3 games at Michigan last weekend in Ann Arbor. Omaha is 18-20 overall following a four-game split at IPFW.

Freshman right-hander Josh Martsching will take the hill for Iowa, making his second start of the season. The Bloomfield, Iowa, native is 0-1 with a 5.19 ERA in 14 appearances with 18 strikeouts over 26 innings. The Mavericks will counter with freshman right-hander Marcus Ethen, who is 0-1 with a 6.16 ERA in eight appearances (one start).

The Hawkeyes will host their final home series this weekend, facing Michigan State on May 10-12 at Duane Banks Field. Friday’s game is slated to begin at 6:05 p.m., while first pitch for Saturday and Sunday’s contests are set for 1:05 p.m.
