THIS WEEK AT THE FURMAN FALL CLASSIC
The University Iowa women’s tennis team competes at the Furman Fall Classic in Greenville, S.C., beginning Friday through Sunday. Iowa players Annette Dohanics, Caitlin Hindmarsh, Ellen Silver, Shelby Talcott, Aimee Tarun and Katie Zordani will compete for the Hawkeyes.
NEXT WEEK AT ITA ALL-AMERICAN CHAMPIONSHIPS
Senior Ruth Seaborne and junior Morven McCulloch compete at the ITA All-American Championships at the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif., beginning Tuesday, Oct. 1. The Hawkeye duo is ranked No. 28 in the ITA preseason doubles rankings.
THE ITA TEST
The doubles field at this year’s Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championships includes the entire top 10 from the ITA women’s preseason rankings. In addition to Iowa, the Big Ten will be represented by Purdue, Illinois, and Michigan.
THE COMPETITION AT FURMAN
In addition to Iowa, the eight-team field includes Alabama, Clemson, Vanderbilt, Florida State, Tennessee, South Carolina, and Furman. The flighted competition consists of six teams that finished ranked in the top 34 of the final 2013 ITA Collegiate Tennis rankings.
HAWK DUO IN THE PRE-SEASON RANKINGS
The duo of Ruth Seaborne and Morven McCulloch enter the 2013 season ranked No. 28 in the ITA preseason doubles rankings. Seaborne and McCulloch were undefeated in nonconference play last season and finished the year with a 16-7 overall mark. They reached as high as No. 34 in the ITA doubles rankings, and recorded a win over an Oklahoma doubles team that enters the season ranked No. 4 nationally. The Hawkeye duo took second last weekend in the Gold Flight doubles bracket at the Gopher Invitational.
FRESHMAN TO MAKE HAWKEYE DEBUT
Freshmen Aimee Tarun will make her Hawkeye debut this weekend. Tarun is from Winnetka, Ill., and was a four-star prospect while competing at Laurel Springs High School. She was ranked as high as No. 94 by TennisRecruiting.net and No. 14 in the Great Lakes Region.
HAWKEYES HEADING BACK TO GREENVILLE
For the first time since 2004, the Hawkeyes are traveling to Greenville, S.C., to compete at the Furman Fall Classic. During last year’s fall season, sophomore Annette Dohanics posted a singles record of 8-2, while junior Ellen Silver recorded a record of 4-1. Dohanics also took first place in Iowa’s 2012 opening tournament. She earned gold in the Maroon Singles Flight at the 2012 Gopher Invitational.
