IOWA CITY, Iowa — Four Hawkeyes were ranked No. 1 at their respective weights when the 51st annual Midlands Championships pre-seeds where announced today. Iowa was represented in all 10 weight classes.
Derek St. John (157), Nick Moore (165), Mike Evans (174) and Ethen Lofthouse (184) were named top pre-seeds by Northwestern head coach Drew Pariano and tournament director Tim Cysewski. Northwestern hosts the annual event inside Welsh Ryan Arena on Dec. 29-30.
A total of 12 Hawkeyes earned pre-seeds. Tony Ramos (133) and Bobby Telford (285) were each rated No. 2. Cory Clark and Thomas Gilman ranked No. 3 and No. 4, respectively, at 125. Sammy Brooks, rated No. 11, joins Lofthouse in the 184-pound bracket. Nathan Burak is seeded No. 3 at 197, and Josh Dziewa (141) and Michael Kelly (149) are seeded No. 7 and No. 8, respectively.
Tournament seeds are subject to change. Final bracket will be released Dec. 28.
