IOWA CITY, Iowa — The Big Ten announced Tuesday that University of Iowa senior Tony Ramos has been named Co-Wrestler of the Week following a pair of wins against Oklahoma State and Indiana. The weekly conference honor is the fourth of his career. He shares the award with Northwestern heavyweight Mike McMullan.
Ramos, the No. 3 rated 133-pounder in the nation, defeated then top-ranked Jon Morrison, 8-2, on Jan. 10 to lead Iowa past No. 5 Oklahoma State, 24-6. He closed the weekend with a pin against Indiana’s Chris Caton in 3:27. The fall was his ninth of the season, which leads the team.
Ramos improved to 32-0 all-time inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena, and owns an overall record of 17-2 with 15 bonus-point wins. His only losses this year have been to No. 1 Joe Colon (UNI) and No. 2 A.J. Schopp (Edinboro).
The weekly conference honor is the second this season for the Hawkeyes. Freshman Thomas Gilman was recognized by the conference office Dec. 31.
Third-ranked Iowa returns to the mat Saturday in Lincoln, Neb. The Hawkeyes and Huskers meet at 4:30 p.m. (CT) at the Devaney Center. The dual will be televised on BTN.
