IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa women’s tennis player Ruth Seaborne was named first-team All-Big Ten at the Big Ten Tournament banquet, Thursday night.
Seaborne, a senior in her second season as a Hawkeye since transferring from Florida State, owns a 15-6 singles record this dual season, including an 8-3 mark in the Big Ten. Seaborne played at the No. 1 position in all 22 matches, and has reached as high as No. 56 in the ITA singles rankings.
Seaborne was recognized as the Big Ten Athlete of the week on two different occasions. She is the first Hawkeye since Sonja Molnar in 2010 to win the award two times in the same season.
Freshman Aimee Tarun was recognized as a Sportsmanship Award honoree. The twelve student-athletes chosen are individuals who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. These student-athletes must also be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting.
Seaborne, Tarun, and the Hawkeyes are set to take on first-seeded Michigan in the Big Ten Tournament quarterfinals Friday at 10 a.m. (CT). The match will take place at the Vandy Christie Tennis Center on the campus of Northwestern University.
