IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa juniors Jake Yacinich and Jake Mangler have been selected as College Sports Madness All-Big Ten honorees. Yacinich was named to the first team, Mangler to the second team.
The pair was previously named first and second team All-Big Ten, respectively, by the Big Ten on Tuesday in a vote of the league head coaches.
Yacinich, a shortstop from Des Moines, Iowa, ranks in the top-five in seven league categories, ranking second in steals (24), batting average (.369), hits (73), and triples (4), while being fourth in runs (43) and on-base percentage (.442). He is tied for the team lead with 22 multi-hit games, which includes four four-hit contests. Yacinich is hitting .477 in the month of May with 10 RBIs and eight runs scored with hits in 9-of-10 games.
Mangler, a second baseman from Clinton, Iowa, is batting .330 with a team-high 44 RBIs as a junior. He has been clutch with runners in scoring position, producing at a .388 clip with 18 RBIs coming with two outs. Mangler is third on the team with 20 multi-hit games and leads the squad with 13 multi-RBI contests. He enters the postseason riding a career-long 29-game reached base streak dating back to March 28.
The eighth-seeded Hawkeyes return to action Wednesday, squaring off against top-seeded Indiana in the opening round of the Big Ten Tournament. Game time is set for 5 p.m. (CT) at TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha. The game will be televised live on BTN.
