SUNBURY, Ohio — University of Iowa men’s golfer Nate Yankovich earned a spot in the 2014 U.S. Amateur Championships on Monday, posting a two-round score of 138 (-4) at Rattlesnake Ridge Golf Course. Yankovich posted the lowest score of all golfers at the U.S. Amateur Qualifier en route to earning his first career U.S. Amateur Championship appearance.
Yankovich, a junior from Blacklick, Ohio, posted a scoring average of 73.67 in his sophomore campaign. He competed as an individual at the Hawkeye-Great River Entertainment Invitational, where he fired a three-round score of 223 (+7) and tied for 23rd. Yankovich also earned a 2-1 record in match play events in 2014.
In June, Yankovich tied for 12th place at the 99th Annual Southwestern Amateur in Scottsdale, Arizona, with a four-round score of 277 (-3).
Yankovich joins Iowa sophomore Carson Schaake and incoming freshman Sam Meuret in the U.S. Amateur field.
The 2014 U.S. Amateur Championship will take place August 11-17 at the Atlanta Athletic Club in Jones Creek, Georgia. In 2013, sophomore Raymond Knoll and former Hawkeye Steven Ihm participated in the event.
