WEST LAFAYETTE, IND — The University of Iowa men’s tennis team wrapped up day 1 action at the Purdue Invite in West Lafayette, Ind., Friday evening. Three Hawkeyes saw action on the court Friday, including freshman Jake Jacoby who highlighted the day for Iowa in his collegiate debut.
Jacoby, playing in flight B of the singles competition defeated Cameron Tehrani of Marquette University in straight sets 7-5, 7-6 (2).
Also in action for the Hawkeyes was senior Andres Estenssoro. Estenssoro saw his action in flight G of the singles competition where he won his first two matches. Estenssoro defeated Andrew Komarov of CWRU in two straight sets 6-3, 6-2. He then went on to grab a victory against Mario Noboa of Chicago State also in straight sets 6-2, 6-1.
Senior Nils Hallestrand participated in flight D of the singles competition for the Hawkeyes, where he squared off against Eduardo Mena of Tennessee Tech. Hallestrand fell in three sets 7-6 (5), 2-6, 6-1.
Jacoby, Hallestrand and Estenssoro also took part in doubles action Friday evening in West Lafayette. Jacoby/Hallestrand had action in the A bracket in doubles competition. They lost their opening match but bounced back with a victory over Kecic/Payne of Western Michigan 8-3 in the consolation round. Andres Estenssoro was paired with Poluk Bhattacharya of Butler in the B Bracket of the doubles competition they fell in their first two matches.

PRINCETON, N.J. — The University of Iowa men’s tennis team, took part in another competition Friday evening, the Princeton Farnsworth Invitational in Princeton, N.J. Four Hawkeyes saw action on day 1 at this competition, senior Matt Hagan, junior Dominic Patrick, freshman Josh Silverstein and freshman Lefteris Theodorou.
Hagan competed in the strongest bracket of the tournament the Tiger Draw he was defeated by Zach McCourt of Princeton in straight sets 1-6, 4-6. Hagan then faced off against Rudy Kurz of Marist in a first round consolation match, He managed to take it to three sets but fell short 4-6, 6-3, 10-2.
Dominic Patrick fell in his opening round match in the Lenz draw but managed to bounce back defeating Martin Svenning of Yale in the consolation first round match in straight sets 7-6 (5), 6-0.
Making his collegiate debut, Josh Silverstein defeated Ivan Kravtchenko of Brown in his opening match in three sets 2-6, 7-6 (1), 6-4. Also in his collegiate debut, Lefteris Theodorou earned a victory in his first match in three sets 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 gaining the advantage over Tom Colautti of Princeton.
Hagan, Patrick, Silverstein and Theodorou also took part in doubles action. Hagan/Theodorou fell at the hands of Fedor Andrlenko and Tyler Lu of Yale 8-2 in the Orange bracket. In the Black bracket it was Patrick/Silverstein picking up a victory over Kalser/Quazzo of Princeton 8-6.
