IOWA CITY, Iowa — Fifty-eight University of Iowa student-athletes have been named to the 2015 Big Ten Winter Academic All-Conference team. The list includes student-athletes from men’s basketball (3), women’s basketball (7), men’s gymnastics (8), women’s gymnastics (4), men’s swimming and diving (12), women’s swimming and diving (15) and wrestling (9).

The 12 men’s swimming and diving selections are tied for the most in program history, the eight men’s gymnasts are the most since 2002, and the seven women’s basketball selections are the most since 2012.

The Big Ten Conference recognized 735 winter sports student-athletes, including 32 men’s and 68 women’s basketball players, 47 men’s and 67 women’s gymnasts, 76 hockey players, 141 men’s and 200 women’s swimmers and divers and 104 wrestlers. At least seven of these student-athletes have maintained unblemished cumulative GPAs, including Iowa women’s basketball sophomore Ally Disterhoft.

To be eligible for Academic All-Big Ten, student-athletes must be letterwinners and be in at least their second academic year at the institution. They must also carry a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better.
